This journey will allow you to see the splendor of Rwanda, the “land of a thousand hills.” Enjoy the many sceneries and landscapes of Rwanda as you travel around the hilly roads. The parks have a combination of savanna, forest, and mountains. You will trek chimps in Nyungwe forest, gorillas in Volcanoes National Park, and participate on wildlife drives in Akagera National Park.

Full Travel Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival to Kigali

Welcome to Rwanda, the land of "a thousand hills." Our guide/representative team will meet you at the airport and bring you to the hotel for the night. If you arrive in the morning or early afternoon, you can take a short tour of Kigali City, including a visit to the genocide memorial. Drive time - 20 minutes

Day 2: Transfer to Akagera National Park | Boat Safari

After breakfast, your driving guide will pick you up from the hotel for a short city tour, including stops at the Kigali genocide memorial and the Kandt museum, before transporting you to Akagera National Park. You'll arrive at the park and then drive to your hotel to check in. After checking in, have lunch and then head for the nighttime boat safari. After lunch, you'll go on a boat safari on Lake Ihema to enjoy the great afternoon wind and see some birds and wildlife. Depending on your interests, you can join a night game drive in search of nocturnal species. Drive time – 2 hours 30 minutes or Helicopter ( Augusta)– 30 minutes

Day 3: Game drive in Akagera National Park

Akagera National Park is a Savannah Park that is home to both large and tiny species. After an early breakfast, your guide will pick you up for a game drive through the park's northern sector, which is less forested and provides better prospects for animal sightings. You will enjoy a shoreline drive along the numerous lakes, looking for wildlife such as zebras, giraffes, impalas, elephants, buffaloes, topi, and the elusive leopard. On a lucky day, you may see a pride of lions before they go into hiding. There is a beautiful variety of bird life for any serious birder or even an enthusiast. Enjoy the varied landscapes of Rwanda at this national park—with views of several lakes, mountains and plains.

Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest, the home of chimps

This morning, we leave Akagera National Park for Nyungwe Forest National Park via Kigali. We'll stop in Huye for lunch and then visit the national museum to discover more about Rwanda's history and traditions. We arrive in Nyungwe Forest later in the evening. Drive time: 7 hours or 35 minutes by helicopter (Robinson)

Day 5: Chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk in the Nyungwe forest

Following an early breakfast, we depart for Chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe Forest. The forest is rich in botanical diversity and is home to 13 species of primates, including chimps, L'Hoest monkeys, and Columbus monkeys, as well as 300 species of birds. Your tour guide will take you to the briefing area, where you will meet your community guide and be briefed before beginning your journey. After the monkey hike, return to the resort, or do the Canopy walk right away to rest. The canopy walk offers stunning views of the forest from above while you observe nature.

Day 6: Transfer to Volcanoes national park

We travel for Volcanoes National Park after breakfast. Enjoy the many landscapes and meandering roads in the Land of a Thousand Hills. Depending on your needs, you will have the opportunity to make several stops for photographs and stretching. Drive time: 6 hours, or 35 minutes by helicopter (Robinson).

Day 7: Gorilla trekking in Rwanda

Meet the mountain gorillas in the deep jungles of the Virunga range. The walk to the gorillas begins with a briefing at the park headquarters in Kinigi, where you will be given a ranger and a gorilla family to accompany you. Following the briefing, your ranger guide will accompany you to the start of the journey. Depending on where the gorilla group is, you may need to drive to the start of the hike. The walk into these big animals' habitats is a rewarding and unforgettable experience that many people want to have. The walk can last anywhere from a few minutes to several hours, depending on where the gorillas nested the night before. Gorilla trekking in Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park is a "once in a lifetime’ experience.

Day 8: Visit the Gorilla Guardians Village and transfer to Lake Kivu

Spend the morning visiting the gorilla guardian’s community, where you can learn more about Rwandan culture. Become a King or Queen for a day, learn to knit, use a bow and arrow, and enjoy Rwandan songs and people. After this trip, fly to Lake Kivu to relax and unwind from all of the frantic travel and activities. Drive time - one hour

Day 9: Lake Kivu Experiences

This will be a break from all of our travel and experiences exploring Rwanda on the shores of the magnificent Lake Kivu. Activities include visiting the hot springs, taking a boat ride to an island, kayaking on Lake Kivu, visiting the DR Congo-Rwanda border, and relaxing at the lakeside in the evening while sipping your favorite drink.

Day 10: Transfer to Kigali for Departure flight

This is your last day on the Kagera Safaris - Rwanda wildlife safari. Start your day with breakfast and then transfer to Kigali International Airport for your trip home. We hope you had a wonderful day exploring this lovely tiny country of a thousand hills. Driving time - 2 hours and 30 minutes Or Helicopter (Robinson) - 35 minutes. End of safari Tour Includes;
