Nobody can make you change your mind about birds once you’ve fallen in love with them. You will travel the entire world to witness and admire the existence of birds. Our 10-day Rwanda bird viewing expedition is ideal for watching birds in their natural habitats. Rwanda, on the African continent, is one of the top bird-watching destinations. There are about 700 different species of birds.
Rwanda has seven Important Bird Areas (IBAs). These are Rugezi Swamp, Akanyaru, Nyabarongo, Cyamudongo, Akagera, Volcanoes Park, and Nyungwe Park. During the 10-day Rwanda bird viewing safari, keep an eye out for red-faced barbets, Bennett’s woodpeckers, Miombo Wren-Warblers, and Shoebills.

Full Travel Itinerary

Day 1; Arrival at Kigali Airport
You will be greeted by a company representative who will give you a brief overview of the tour before transporting you to your hotel. Your birding trip will begin immediately as you travel to the hotel; you will be able to spot many species, preparing you for what is to come

Day 2; Transfer to Akagera national park
You will drive to Akagera National Park, an open savannah. The Park is a popular birding destination in Rwanda, with its savannah, relatively open grassland, and papyrus wetlands. The acacia savanna in eastern Rwanda is home to a diverse population of African birds. These include the Bennett's Woodpecker, headed Black Chat, White-Black-collared Barbet, Tabora Cisticola, and Miombo Wren-warbler, and it is most likely the greatest spot to discover the rare Ring-necked Francolin. The very confined acacia specialist Red-faced Barbet can be found on the Akagera Game Lodge grounds. This afternoon, you'll go birding before retiring to your lodge. Day 3: Full-day birding in Akagera
After breakfast, spend the rest of the day viewing birds in the park. You'll have a picnic lunch and then return to the resort. African birds include the Bennett's Woodpecker, headed Black Chat, White-Black-collared Barbet, Tabora Cisticola, and Miombo Wren-warbler. In addition, seek for the Barefaced Go-away Bird, Brown Parrot, White-winged Black Tit, and Sooty Chat. One of Africa's most sought-after birds, the gigantic and strange Shoebill, may be found in the Papyrus swamp habitat. Other Papyrus wetland specialists include the wetland Flycatcher, Carruther's Cisticola, the rare White-winged Warbler, and the breathtaking Papyrus Gonolek. You will drive to Nyungwe later in the day to stay the night. Dinner may be at Nyungwe forest lodge, Gisakura Guest House.

Day 4: Birding at Nyungwe National Park
This Park is Rwanda's premier birdwatching destination, with approximately 13 species of resident primates. It is a gorgeous and ancient tropical evergreen forest with a diverse range of species, making it one of the top birding destinations. Birds include the Rwenzori Turaco, Handsome Francolin, Mountain Black Boubou, Ruwenzori Batis, Yellow-eyed Black Flycatcher, Archer's Robin-chat, the rare Grauer's Rush Warbler, Red-faced Woodland Warbler, Neumann's Warbler, Purple-throated, Blue-headed, and magnificent Regal Sunbird. Striped-breasted Tit and Strange Weaver can also be spotted. The highly sought-after Red-collared Mountain Babbler can currently only be found in Nyungwe Forest Park. You'll have a packed lunch, but dinner will be at the lodge when you return Overnight at Nyungwe top hill view lodge, One and Only Nyungwe Lodge
Have breakfast early in the morning and then report for a briefing on Chimpanzee tracking. Then transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing. You will be allocated a ranger to assist you in your quest for the chimpanzee. Keep an eye out for other primates on the trail. Nyungwe forest is home to humankind's closest living relative, the chimpanzee, as well as the gorgeous L'Hoest's monkey and hundreds of battalions of the charmingly acrobatic Angola colobus. Furthermore, in the afternoon, you will go on a nature walk in the forest in search of birds before returning to your lodge. Overnight at previous lodging.

Day 6: Drive to the Parc National des Volcans
After breakfast, drive through the market town of Ruhengeri / Musanze, which has a picturesque setting at the foot of the Virunga mountains. The Parc National des Volcans is located in Rwanda's far northwest and is home to Mountain Gorillas, recently habituated Golden Monkeys, and over 180 bird species. The landscape, located in the Virunga volcano chain, is primarily made up of steep volcanic slopes. Unfortunately, a large portion of the Afro-montane forest has been removed for agriculture. Higher up, there is moorland, marsh, and grassland, with Giant Lobelias growing prominently in some areas. The environment consists primarily of dense bamboo stands and Hagenia woodlands between 2,500 and 3,500 metres. Resident birds with many of the Albertines Rift Endemics, such as the Handsome Francolin, the highly sought-after and spectacular, ‘painted’ Rwenzori Turaco; Archer’s Robin-chat and both Dusky and Shelley’s Crimson wings. Day 7: Parc National des Vulcans; gorilla tracking and birdwatching
After an early breakfast, we will go on the most thrilling activity in Rwanda: gorilla tracking, followed by an adrenaline journey through the terraced foothills of the Virunga for breathtaking views in all directions. Immerse yourself in the fascinating intimacy of the rainforest, which is alive with the sounds of colorful birds and the chattering of rare golden monkeys, as well as fresh spoor from the mountains' secretive Buffalo and Elephant populations.

Day 8: Birdwatching in and near volcanoes
Today, you will go on a nature walk through the forest in search of more birds before returning late to relax at your lodge. Overnight in the previous lodge.

Day 9: Birdwatching at Twin Lake

Day 10: Birdwatching/Transfer Return to Kigali
Finally, you will conclude your 10-day Rwanda bird viewing safari with a nature walk along Lake Kivu's shoreline in search of birds. After that, you will drive to Kigali. The tour has ended.
